Avante Garde

When I started learning about a fashion designing, this kind of fashion was alien to me. I could never understand what it meant. But with experience comes knowledge and so I did happen to create a few fashion pieces that crossed over to the artistic side of high-fashion.

Ghungroo

For the World of Wearable Art aka WOW, 2012 I created this stunning work of art. For a garment that makes sound, 'Ghungroo' was my winning entry into this international competition. Combining my love for Indian crafts, I manipulated the technique of 'Bandhini' and used bells instead. Hence, with over 148 hours of hand tying, this amazing garment was produced. This was also my first couture work of art as everything was hand sewn. Go through the images to read about the inspiration for this creation.

Buzz-aar

A great opportunity for me explore my creativity was when my designer Pallavi Jaipur asked me to create a finale piece for her collection 'Buzz-aar'. Inspired by the local markets of Jaipur, this idea took shape in my mind where if I cannot bring the audience to the market place , then instead let me take the market place to them. Hence this outfit was conceived. And the great Mandira Bedi did justice to it by carrying the outfit with the exact amount of boldness and aplomb. Have a look at the garment and try to identify all that one can see at the 'bazaars' of Jaipur!

Zardozi

My first step into sustainable fashion was with this amazing creation 'Zardozi', not inspired but any idea but the actual embroidery of 'zardozi' itself, and not by its technique but by the waste that it produces! Yes, you read it correct. This work of art was created using the waste embroidery materials produced when creating surface ornamentations using zardozi embroidery. Further, the story of this garment can be read inside where you can easily identify the concept is quite controversial. Extra points if you can identify the other material used.

Prithvi

A daring attempt, albeit a failed one, was my creation I called 'Prithvi'. Inspired to use only waste items to create, this bold idea was a result of using the waste gelatin found in bakeries of India. The discarded food item from shops was used as the source material to create this work of art. The idea was to present how we are destroying the blue plant and bleeding it red, hence the color choices. This may have been a bit disappointing but it was impactful none the less. This was also another of the finalist entries in the WOW competition.
